MHRT/C Continuing Education Change (Updated 6/1/23)
Full MHRT/C certificate holders are required to complete at least 18 hours of continuing education (CE) during the time period listed on their certificate in order to have their MHRT/C certificates renewed. That period is two (2) years as listed on the current MHRT/C certifciate. A minimum of four (4) hours of the 18 hours of training must be in Ethics. A minimum of six (6) hours if the 18 hours of training must be live training: face-to-face or live interactive video conference/webinars or classes. CE must address one or more competency domains. Select this link for a list of the MHRT-C Knowledge Competencies.
At the time of renewal, please submit a completed MHRT/C Renewal Form with your CE documentation. Please submit no sooner than 90 days prior to your expiration date. You do not need to submit a copy of your MHRT/C certificate with the renewal form.

For a list of what is and is not accepted for CE, we’ve created a checklist to help you (last updated 6/1/23):
CE Checklist
Ninety (90) days before your expiration date, an email reminder will be sent to the email address we have on file for you. If you have changed email addresses since your last MHRT/C certificate was emailed to you, please update your info with our office using the following email address: updatemhrtccontactinfo@cfl-muskie.org.
If you not sure whether a training applies to one or more of the MHRT/C knowledge competencies, we have a short guide that may help you.
If you have questions, please first review our FAQs and our February 17, 2022 newsletter before contacting our office. FAQs answered include how to reinstate your MHRT/C if your certificate has expired (Click on “What if I submit my continuing education late?” within the FAQs).
The following is a partial list of organizations that offer training and courses in behavioral health. Not all trainings offered by these providers necessarily meet the requirements for Continuing Education for the MHRT/C. Please work with your supervisor to determine training to meet your professional goals, or whether or not a training meets the MHRT/C continuing education requirement.
