MHRT/C Pathway A Program Highlight

May is the start of graduation season, and with many colleges and universities holding commencement ceremonies this month, we would like to extend our congratulations to all 2024 graduates!

The Center for Learning works closely with colleges and universities across Maine to assist programs in aligning their courses to include the MHRT/C knowledge competencies. There are currently 33 approved degree and certificate programs at 15 institutions throughout the state where students can earn their MHRT/C certification while also earning academic credit!

The list continues to expand as we review courses and programs on an ongoing basis. We strongly encourage applicants who might not have a degree to consider these offerings. Many of the programs offer online and hybrid options.

To highlight a few:

  • University of Maine at Presque Isle offers two certificate options to accelerate entry into the workforce, while staying on track to earn a degree.
  • University of Maine at Fort Kent has an accelerated program that is entirely online.
  • Husson University offers both an MHRT/C-approved Psychology program, as well as an eight-course standalone certificate option.
  • York County Community College has a nine-course MHRT/C certificate program.
  • Through a partnership with the University of Maine at Machias, students from the University of Maine have the option of completing a seven-course Mental Health Rehabilitation Minor that meets the requirements for Full MHRT/C.

These are just a few examples of the wide variety of academic options available to MHRT/C applicants at Maine’s two- and four-year colleges.

More information about all these programs is on the MHRT/C Academic Programs page.

As a reminder to graduates of these Pathway A approved MHRT/C programs, please delay applying until your degree has been listed as conferred on your official transcript. Thank you for your cooperation!

Save-the-Date for a Continuing Education Opportunity!

The full two-year MHRT/C certificate comes with an 18-hour continuing education requirement for renewal every two years. Of the 18 hours, a minimum of 4 (four) must be in Ethics and 6 (six) must be Live (interactive training). The folks at Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) are planning to host a live MHRT/C-focused mini conference on July 22, 2024, at the Alfond Campus of KVCC in Woodlee Hall. This full day event will feature a keynote presentation and breakout sessions offering continuing education credit. The organizers are currently developing a web portal with registration information.

They are also looking for an experienced MHRT/C to provide a keynote address. If you work as an MHRT/C, or supervise someone who does, and would like more information about this opportunity, please contact:
