MHRT/C
CONTINUING EDUCATION:
A Trick or Treat?
Completing continuing education to maintain a valid two-year MHRT/C certificate is a TREAT! Every two years, an individual holding a valid two-year Full MHRT/C certificate can renew their certificate by completing 18 hours of continuing education during that two-year expiration period. Each certificate shows an effective date and an expiration date on the lower left side of the certificate (see below). Only certificates showing a two-year expiration period are eligible for renewal. This full certificate is earned by satisfying all eight of the MHRT/C competency domains.
SAMPLE:
Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician/Community
EFFECTIVE DATE: 11/1/2022
EXPIRATION DATE: 11/30/2024
When an individual holds a Full MHRT/C showing a one-year expiration period, it’s a trick if they complete continuing education! The one-year expiration period indicates that there are outstanding domain requirements to complete before earning full certification with a new two-year expiration period. Certain Full MHRT/C certificates have a one-year expiration period until all eight competency domains are met.

5. Policy Knowledge; 6. Mind-Body Connection; 7. Cultural Competency; 8. Vocational Support

Another trick is when an individual holding a Provisional MHRT/C completes continuing education! Provisional certificates do not have a continuing education requirement. Provisional means there are outstanding domain requirements to complete before earning full certification.
