How to Apply for the MHRT/Community Certification

It’s easy. Simply submit these three documents to the Muskie School Center for Learning (CFL) to get started. Upon receipt, CFL will send a confirmation email within 48 business hours.

1. A completed application form
2. A copy of an official academic transcript or non-academic training certificates of completion
3. A certificate of completion from the free, one-hour online module Maine’s Mental Health System 101: An Introduction (link to training website)

CFL can only review complete applications! If one of these pieces is missing, it slows down the whole process. Applications can be submitted using email, the online portal through the CFL website, or the US Postal Services. CFL reviews complete applications in the order we receive them. Please allow up to three weeks for the review.

Provisional MHRT I

Many agencies continue to use old, outdated forms when applying for Provisional MHRT I for new staff. A link to the current certificate is on the Forms sections of the CFL website.

MHRT/Community Non-Academic Training Opportunity

Spots are still available for the upcoming MHRT/C Domain 7: Cultural Competency train-the-trainer program, on October 27, 28 & 29, from 8:30 – 12:00 via Zoom. The deadline to apply is Friday October 8, 2021. You must apply and be accepted in order to attend this training, even if you have applied in the past for a different Domain. For information on the application process, please go to the MHRT/C section of the CFL website and click the Non‐Academic Training tab

How to Renew an MHRT/Community Certificate

MHRT/C certificate holders must renew their certificate prior to the expiration date on their certificate. The way to renew a certificate is to complete 18 hours of continuing education related to the knowledge competency domains, during the period on the certificate. (A minimum of four (4) hours must address Ethics.) If an individual lets a certificate expire, MHRT/C services are no longer reimbursable through the Office of MaineCare Services (OMS). Please go to our Continuing Education page for more information on this process. If an individual currently holds a MHRT/C certificate without an expiration date, it is invalid! Contact cfl-muskie@maine.edu for more information.

REMINDER: MHRT/C certificate holders may continue to complete the entire 18-hour Continuing Education requirement online, until further notice. We will send out advance notice when OBH reinstates the face-to-face requirement. Please remember that at least four (4) of these hours must be in Ethics.
