ACCREDITATION
We accept transcripts from a regionally accredited institution for MHRT/C certification. While the US Department of Education accepts other accreditation boards for financial aid purposes, regional accreditation is the gold standard.
The regional accreditation boards are as follows:
New England Commission on Higher Education
This commission accredits colleges and universities in the six New England states: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
Middle States Commission on Higher Education
This commission accredits colleges and universities in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
(North Central) Higher Learning Commission
This commission accredits colleges and universities in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Northwest Commission on Colleges & Universities
This commission accredits colleges and universities in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.
Southern Association of Colleges & Schools Commission on Colleges
This commission accredits colleges and universities in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
Western Association of Schools and Colleges
This commission accredits colleges and universities in California, Hawaii, and the Pacific. It is broken into two divisions:
Commission for Community and Junior Colleges for Associate Degree programs
and
Senior College and University Commission for Bachelor Degree & above programs.
In addition, social work programs have their own gold standard:
Council of Social Work Education
CSWE-certified programs must meet specific knowledge competencies, which align with Domains 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 7 of the MHRT/C requirements. Most social work programs are CSWE accredited.
FOREIGN TRANSCRIPTS
Foreign transcripts must go through a credentialing service which will translate it into English (if necessary) and provide a US equivalency to the coursework completed. These services are overseen by two accreditation boards as approved by the US Department of State:
National Association of Credential Evaluation Services
And
Association of International Credentials Evaluators
The foreign transcript holder may pick any member service accredited by either board. They would then submit the credentialing services findings with their application for MHRT/C.
